Edinburgh, Scotland by uncle chan

Hello, time to post the story of Scotland trip because I’m lazy update here since this trip already passed 2 week ago haha. Me and my friends had a Scotland trip for 4days started on 15 July 2009. Definitely we need to skip class because it’s impossible to have 4days straight holiday :D . Scotland is a country that part of United Kingdom and just located north of the England. We are going to Scotland by this rental car, Vauxhall – Corsa 1.4 with 5 door.

Our racing car, 烈火战车!

You can’t see Vauxhall car in Malaysia :) . This is the cheapest rental car for below 25years old. It cost us 215pound for 7days include insurance and an extra driver. For those above 25years old can get a cheaper price. Don’t know why have the 25years old rule :???: .

We rent this car from Arnold Clark, one of the car rental company in United Kingdom. We drive this car more than 1000km within 7days !

This is a manual gear car. They prefer manual gear more than automatic gear car, weird. It is right-hand side drive (same with Malaysia) but the corner signal is on left hand side and sweeper on right hand side. Be careful, there are many speed limit camera in England !

On the way to Edinburgh – the capital city of Scotland. From picture below, It’s 7.48am morning and 15 Celsius. A bit raining on that day. It took about 4 hours from Liverpool to Edinburgh. Do research on the route with Google Earth before start your trip, it really helpfully and accurately. All the road sign are same with Malaysia, only one difference is they using ‘Mile’ while Malaysia use ‘Kilometer’.

Finally we reached Edinburgh. Take some pictures first. Train station down there.

This bus exactly same with Liverpool city sightseeing bus, just the word “Edinburgh” different.

This is the main street named High Street at Edinburgh old town, all tourist come here. A lot of souvenir can be found here.

Middle of the street, got a statue and a church – St. Giles’ Cathedral.

This is the church. Beautiful inside but not really difference compared to other church I visited in UK.

This building is Bank of Scotland, I  know because of Google Earth :) .

Bi~bi~bi~Bi~Bi~Bibi~BiBIbi~~ Scottish and his classic instrument.

Still in the High Street but different view.

The Queen’s official residence in Scotland. When she come Scotland, she stay here :) . Entry is not free.

Outside view of the palace. It’s closed, some more I not desire to pay to take a look inside.

Lets go to Holyrood Park, it just opposite of the The Queen’s official residence in Scotland.

This is view of Holyrood Park. We climb till the top following the path.

On the way going to the top.

Warning sign…. who dare to climb ?

We are finding the right path going to the top. Do you see one people on the top there ?

Yeah, here is the top. There is another higher hill but we decided give up. Full view of Edinburgh city.

Don’t walk too close to the edge , no cover there ……

We stay here more than 2 hours, take a picture before go back hotel.

We are going back to the hotel after Holyrood Park. Night view of Edinburgh.

Far view on the Edinburgh castle.

Far view also on the Princes Street.

Midnight in Edinburgh. No people, big different to the morning.

Night view on the church. That’s all for our 1st day in Edinburgh, we visit Edinburgh castle on the 2nd day morning.

Morning of the 2nd day. Here is it, entrance of the Edinburgh Castle.

13 pound per entry for adult.

I visited many castle , and Edinburgh I rate it the best castle.

Some picture inside Edinburgh Castle.

So big 8-O

Many guns combined into one ?

Kids playing around ….

We took 3hours to visit Edinburgh Castle because it area very large and lot of things to explore. High Street again after visited Edinburgh Castle.

Scotland Parliament.

Free entry to Scotland Parliament.

Edinburgh Castle on the top, seen here from the Grassmarket.

Far view to the Bank of Scotland.

Another hill at Edinburgh. Calton Hill , this hill much lower than Holyrood park. Good place to see full view of Edinburgh at night.

Night view from Calton Hill.

Edinburgh really a nice place and worth to visit :) . I recommended stay at Edinburgh for at least 3 days if you planned to visit here. Unfortunately we just stay for 2 days and not enough time to fully explore Edinburgh.

Lake District by uncle chan

11 July 2009 , I went to Lake District follow the student union trip. Lake District is a place that famous on its lakes and mountains. The area of Lake District very large and got a lot of lakes and mountains so that we just can go one of the lakes only. For more information about Lake District, always use wikipedia :) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lake_District

Our mission is walk to the lakes on the mountain, it take us around 2 hours and roughly 300m of climbing to reach the lakes. tired tired.

We return to the nature, you will see all the picture are in green colour  ….. This is a good place for relax if you live in the city. Imagine how good if you have a house here and take a short vacation here.

Gogogo …. Let’s the journey begin. A small waterfall out there. There are a lot of wild sheep here, sound “meh~~ .. meh~~~” around.

Enter the gate and no turning back. This is your destiny to climb the mountain…….

Our life same as this road, curved and not flat, always get pok kai (fall down) and stand up many times to reach the top.~~ :D

Tired ! Me old man need to rest a while here. Take a look at back and found that far away from starting point. Yes, I climbed such high position, prove that I still young ! Look like I can challenge Mount Everest next time….

I found a wild sheep here ! It keeping “meh ~~ meh~~” . I wan bring it back to my home ……… It look like delicious in curry lamb  ngek ngek.

This is the top of the small waterfall I mentioned before.

Happy family plus one dog! Pity the man need to carry the biggest bag and a children behind… it’s very exhausting that’s why he need the climbing tools.

Yeah…. we reach the top ! This is the lake , also this lake is the source of that small waterfall.

Old, retired and nothing to do already, so come here fishing, have a picnic here, flashback their young love story and more. 老夫老妻,享受人生。

View of the lake. Got mountain got water equal to nice view.

Lunch time ! Bread and biscuit only. Sit down have a picnic here while view at the beautiful scenery and listen to the natural sound…. what a great enjoyment here !

When I enjoy my bread, crazy wild duck come again ……… ok lar , share a bit bread for you guys….

After half an hour, we need go back. need walk again. We will go to next destination.

Just a short time by coach, we reach to other place called Bowness. This place has cruise services round the lake Windermere. Lake Windermere is the largest lake in the England and one of the lake in Lake District.

She feed the swan and get surrounded.

Totally not scare human….. because human feed it till 肥肥白白 (fat fat and white white).

These boat waiting for rent. Forgot how much per hour.

This guy and girl on the boat made a joke of the day. They rent this boat but don’t know how to canoeing. hahaha…. At first the guy canoeing but he too noob… he totally not understand the concept of canoe.. haha. The boat turn and turn around in the same place. Finally that girl impatient already, the guy give up and the girl start canoeing…. There are a lot of people sitting there watch the show. All the people was laughing on them haha  After 10min, the instructor guide the girl how to canoeing, finally she made the right direction to get out from here :???: One question come out from my brain, will they able to canoeing back after they reach the middle of lake ? At last, they really late ! We all waiting them inside the bus for 30min

My Lake District trip end here, time to go back home. Next post is about trip to Scotland !

Stonehenge and Salisbury by uncle chan

Do you heard Stonehenge before ? Maybe you don’t know what the place Stonehenge is but I think you had saw Stonehenge picture before. I went to Stonehenge on 4 July 2009 , quite long time ago because I lazy update :D .

The history of Stonehenge is mystery since nobody know who built it. It had believed that Stonehenge was built 4500 years ago and also no such technology can shift and erect those super heavy stone at that time. In addition, there are many mystery such as position of stone, function of stonehenge and more. There are too many debate and theories on Stonehenge but who cares ? As long as this is one of the famous place in the world and worth to visit.

Closer view of Stonehenge. Too bad it not allow to step inside. Somebody said it allow walk through and touch the stone 2 years ago, I unsure for that.

Full view of Stonehenge. If you want more information on Stonehenge, go to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stonehenge

That’s all for Stonehenge. We sit down and had our lunch beside the Stonehenge. After 2 hours, we leave Stonehenge and going to next destination – Salisbury.

Salisbury is a small town just near to Stonehenge. The most famous place in Salisbury is Salisbury Cathedral.

Their river got Swan and Duck !! However Malaysia river got rubbish !

They feed Swan and ‘Donald’ Duck with bread. All come here ‘cari makan’, that’s why crowd down there.

City center street decorated with flower.

I got a story here. One of my friend wear Liverpool FC jersey, we walk around and meet a guy with his dog. Suddenly the guy take out his Manchester United jersey from his pocket and said “Liverpool ~~” to my friend while kiss Manchester United badge on his jersey =.= . Some more his dog chase my friend :D but stopped by his owner. Lucky we are in Salisbury, not in Manchester haha. Conclusion, if you want your life longer, wear your football club jersey in the right city. You can’t see people wear Manchester United jersey in Liverpool, also nobody wear Liverpool FC jersey in Manchester or London.

Welcome to Salisbury Cathedral. :)

Need entry fee to take a look inside, no money liao lar ~~

Cool weather + good grass = Everybody lay down for relax and discussion.

Their natural grass no itchy and no spine. Really good good good !!

Time up, is time to go back home. This is just an one day trip, we are insufficient time to explore entire Salisbury but we still satisfy on this short journey. :)
